Honouring The Fallen
The Canadian Fallen Firefighters Foundation is a registered, non-profit charitable corporation, governed by a Board of Directors composed of members of the Canadian Fire Service and other interested Canadians dedicated to honouring Canada’s fallen firefighters. The Foundation was incorporated in 2003 to produce a national monument to now over 1,200 fallen firefighters.
The CFFF raised the funds, selected, and constructed the Canadian Firefighters Memorial. Dedicated in September 2012 by the Governor General of Canada, the memorial is located in Ottawa on Wellington St. west of Parliament Hill and close to the National War Museum. It is a place where the families of the fallen and indeed all Canadians may spend a quiet moment remembering their sacrifice.
The objectives of the Foundation are:
- To operate the Canadian Firefighters Annual Memorial Ceremony and update the memorial wall.
- To provide financial subsidies to families of fallen firefighters for transportation to and lodging in Ottawa during the memorial weekend.
- To provide family support programs including funeral assistance, along with scholarships and bursaries for the children and spouses of fallen firefighters, and participation in Camp Faces.
